Suggested Lessons and Outcomes

1. Creating Animals

Ask the children to think of some animals they could make with blocks.  For example, could they make an elephant with a long trunk or a giraffe with a long neck? Other ideas might be a monkey or a snake.

Questions to ask - What are the main features of the animal? What does a giraffe look like?  What could you use for its neck?  How can you make it so he won't fall over?  Can the ball roll down through his neck?

2. Get Inventing

Make an invention using pipes and tubes. See if the children can make a tall tower with a tube that goes all the way down.

Questions to ask - What problems did you face when making the tower? Did the ball get stuck at all? How did you fix any problems?

Words to use - slide, top, bottom, in, out, through, narrow, tower

3. Design a playground

Ask the children what they like most about their playground and using the blocks see if they can design a fun playground for the little people.
